Model Restoration Ship And Boat Projects

The German Warship Zerstorer Z-30 1942 Model Commission

Towards the end of last year I was commissioned to build the Zerstorer Z-30 the only difference was that this came in the form a kit produced by Trumpeter models. The model was in 1:350 scale so pretty small, the re-mitt was to construct the kit whilst making some changes which were to include changing the gun barrels to brass ones instead of the plastic ones supplied in the kit. The other changes were to include the anchor chains adding extra detailed hand rails as well as rope and rigging details to help enhance the model, one other addition was to apply weathering in the appropriate places to finish off this already highly detailed model.

Although pretty fiddly the gun barrels were well worth the effort for that precise finish even down to the holes in the end of them, the anchor chains were supplied to replace the moulded detailed ones on the deck which without a doubt certainly enhanced the forward deck area. With regards to the other enhancements although fiddly when it came down to adding the extra mast area details it certainly proved very worth it, the final enhancement was to apply the weathering to the ship in various places at the request of the customer. All of the extra details inc the anchor chains and gun barrels etc were supplied by the customer for this commission.

Once the ship had been completed the last job was to create a North Sea seascape at the request of the customer, this took a little time to achieve but when the model was put into place it certainly proved to be that finishing touch.

Overall this commission although different from usual type build certainly proved to be very enjoyable.
