A short while ago a customer arrived with a rather nice water line model of the Queen Mary in need of some TLC, the first task was to discuss the work required to bring the model back to its former glory. The first job was to take a series of photos for future reference, then work could begin by firstly carefully removing the display case cover and the model and seascape. Once the model had been removed the damaged fittings and masts etc were carefully put to one side so cleaning could commence on the deck areas. With the cleaning now finished the repairs to the fittings could now begin by sorting out the lifeboats, ladders and funnels etc followed by very carefully repairing the forward mast and additional booms.
Once all the fitting repairs had been finished work could begin on replacing the rigging details which as you can imagine were pretty delicate on such a scale of model, however with time and patience were successfully completed throughout the entire model thus completing the actual model itself. The next task was to repair the damage to the seascape and touch up the paint work before fixing the model back into place on the seascape, this was then fixed to the wooden base. With the model and seascape now finished the final task was to make a new bespoke cover designed to fit in the original base and coloured matched to the base.
Overall this was a very satisfying restoration that can now be enjoyed for years to come.
