This particular restoration arrived having been damaged in transit on a previous journey. The damage itself was quite extensive and would take some considerable work in order to bring it back to its former glory. Most of the damage was around the Helicopter Deck area along with large deck crane which would need to be almost totally rebuilt and re-rigged, this would be the first job and the most complicated to complete. Once the crane had been rebuilt and repainted the cable detail could be reattached to finish it off, this was then followed by lots of minor repairs including Hand Rails, Ladders, fenders plus any touching up of the paint work that was required.
With all the deck area repairs completed I moved onto the Helicopter Deck which was carefully refitted along with new supports and access ladders etc to complete the task. The final jobs involved making good some repairs to the hulls paint work and deck area detail followed by making a new display case cover to replace the damaged one in order that it can be displayed to maximum effect.
This restoration proved to be challenging but well worth it on what is an unusual subject.
