Glampton Yacht Restoration

A little while ago I took delivery of a mid-size pond yacht in need of total restoration as can been seen in the photos. As with all restorations the first job was to discuss with the customer the overall look required for this model, once this had been confirmed work could begin.

The first job was to replace the deck with a new one that could then be fully planked as seen in the photos, this was then followed by preparing the hull for the new paint scheme. Once the hull had been prepared the first of 3 coats of primer could be applied each coat being rubbed down until a smooth finish had been achieved. The next stage was to carefully mark out the water line before the lower part of the hull was painted followed by the area above the water line, as with the primer each of the 3/4 coats were then wet and dried before the topcoats were applied prior to final sanding and buffing, the end result can be seen in the photos.

Now with the hull finished, I could move onto the masts etc, these were straight forward enough to replace along with the required deck fittings. Once the new mast etc had been fitted I could move onto adding the new hand made bespoke sails and all the rigging required for the style of model. With the model now finished the final job was to carefully check over the entire model to make sure everything is correct.

Overall, this restoration proved to be very satisfying and once placed on the bespoke stand certainly looks the part.
