Ailsa Scottish Pond Yacht Restoration

A short while ago I received from a customer a very nice Ailsa pond yacht (made in Scotland) in need of some TLC, as with all restorations the first job was to study the model taking several photos for future reference as well as discuss with the owner the work required. Once the work required had been confirmed I could get started by removing all the fittings etc before very carefully removing the makers badge from the rear of the deck, once this had been done work could begin on restoring the deck area taking great care to match the wood colours, the final task on the deck area would be to re-fit all of the deck fittings including the original makers badge. With the deck now finished the remit from the customer was to preserve the original hull paint so only a very gentle clean was carried out prior to re-polishing to protect the original paint and keel area.

Now that the hull was finished, I could move onto the making of a new mast and bow sprit as well as the rear boom, once these had been finished, I moved onto measuring up and making new sails including new eyelets and mast rings. With the new sails now finished the next task was to re-attach them followed by all new rigging and rigging adjusters thus completing the restoration.
